This aerial picture does not convey the emotion I felt as a child, craning my neck skyward from a tiny boat sandwiched between these ships. Seeing them from water level, touching their cold skin, smelling their grease, hearing their anchor chains clang, holding fast against the current as if they were alive. Though fifty plus years ago now, I remember it like it happened yesterday.
